Law & Order SVU “Transitions” Episode Information

NBC has released information on another new February episode for Law & Order SVU titled “Transitions.” Here is the information:

Law & Order SVU “Transitions” Air Date February 17, 2009
WHEN A MAN IS FOUND BRUTALLY BEATEN AND BARELY ALIVE OUTSIDE A STRIP CLUB, HIS TRANSGENDER TEEN IS THE PRIME SUSPECT.

When a man is found badly beaten with no memory of what happened in a strip club parking lot, Detectives Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni) are at a loss for evidence as a rainstorm washed away any clues. A fake fingernail embedded in the victim's back leads the detectives to believe that the attacker is female. Detective Benson and Stabler turn to the female dancers at the club for questioning, but a homeless man, Sid Gabbert (guest star Paul Lazar), points the detectives to the victim’s truck. Using evidence found in the truck, the detectives learn that the victim, Mark Van Kuren (guest star Frank Grillo), was sent to repossess the car of strip club dancer, Molly “Misty” Lambert (guest star Heidi Marnhout). After questioning “Misty,” Van Kuren awakes in the hospital with no memory, but brings the attention to his ex-wife Ellen (guest star Wendy Makkena) and their 13-year-old transgender son Henry (guest star Bridger Zadina). Also starring: Richard Belzer (Detective John Much), Dann Florek (Captain Donald Cragen), Ice-T (Detective Odafin Tutuola), Michaela McManus (A.D.A Kim Greylek), Tamara Tunie (Dr. Melinda Warner), and B.D. Wong (Dr. George Huang).

On February 6, NBC changed the air date for "Transitions" from February 10 to February 17.)

It's funny how on TV and in movies transgender "women" are always played by actual women. The reason? In real life you can spot the fakes quite easily.

@jimbo: You of course realise that putting quotes around a transsexual's gender and referring to "actual women" as a comparison comes across as prejudicial against Trans people. I hope this is not what your intention was but you should be more careful and respectful in your words.

In actual reality you've probably walked past transsexuals on the street and never even known. Not all Trans people are/look like the guests on Jerry Springer. Most live quiet lives and blend in fairly well.

Also hate to break it to you but there have been Transwomen on tv actually played by transwomen, for example CSI: NY epsiode "The Lying Game" and CSI Ch-Ch-Changes both featured actual Transpeople playing roles. Even though they did actually reinforce many stereotypes regarding transsexualism. It still deserves mention that actual transwomen played these roles.

This is a ridiculous example of how a straight white male is never portrayed a victim in this show. The straight white guy is the cause of all issues???? What an exaggeration, so sad men need to wait 3 years before electing to get surgery, half of them that switch become lesbians.

The father gets beaten inches from death and balls ruptured and it is some how alright because the attacker was a victim before and neutered violently? This episode seems to be promoting transgender rights in the face of all logic or legal precedent.

I am a transgender. I use to be a female and now I am a male. Nobody knows that I am transgender unless I tell them so. It is not noticeable. The same goes for males that transition to females, you can not tell that they use to be men. You would be surprised if you ever met a transgender, we look like any other biological male or female.

I didn't like the way the episode portrayed transgendered people, to be perfectly honest. Most trans people are law-abiding citizens and just normal people.
I get it that life can be very painful for a transgendered person, but that doesn't give them the right to raid a pharmacy or attempt murder. Trans people weren't put in a very positive light at all, despite the pro-trans rights vibe here. Also, if a therapist feels like they are getting too attached to a client, it is their professional duty to refer to someone else. I don't get how someone goes, "Oh, I'm mad that he's not accepting his trans daughter" to "Let's kill him" just because they were the victim of a violent crime.
